Shira Weiss Bio

Shira Weiss oversees Weiss Media Group Inc. (WMG), a firm that specializes in media relations and marketing for companies, spokespeople and personalities. WMG’s clients range from high tech corporations and NGOs to leading authorities, including rocket scientists, “green” living experts, physicians, CEOs and minor celebrities.

Over the last two decades and through the “dot-bomb” era, Weiss has freelanced for leading PR firms to service a variety of accounts in the areas of: high tech, environment, health and education. She has also worked extensively with Jewish and Israeli companies. Past clients in the high tech space have included IBM, Sony, Siemens, Global Crossing and Cablevision. Weiss also consulted for Zalul Environmental Association (based in Israel) and for Yeshiva University and Yeshivat Chovevei Torah among other Jewish organizations.

Shira Weiss began her public relations and writing career at International Discount Telecommunications (IDT). There, she worked with a small team to launch the VOIP service Net2Phone, and produced comprehensive research reports on all matters related to Internet Telephony. She traveled around the world to promote Net2Phone, secured bundling agreements with international magazines, and presented at trade shows such as CEBIT in Germany and CES in Las Vegas. At IDT, Weiss also managed publicity and edited content for the Digital Freedom Network, a web site created by IDT’s CEO Howard Jonas, to serve as a medium for freedom of speech for political dissidents worldwide.

From IDT, she went on to the PR firm Technology Solutions Incorporated (TSI) and worked with both high tech and healthcare clients. There she launched and promoted products such as the Siemens’ PocketReader, a handheld digital text scanner designed for the business traveler. Weiss also worked with a healthcare focused team at TSI and promoted NADH, a dietary supplement formulated to combat fatigue. Notably, she led a PR team for Frontier Communications (which later became Global Crossing), setting up media and analyst tours for executives, and securing extensive press coverage for Frontier’s fiber optic network, and later on, for the company’s acquisition by Global Crossing. She also traveled extensively, both domestically and abroad, to demonstrate and unveil new technologies.

Following TSI, Weiss became Director at ExcitePR LLC, a boutique PR firm where she promoted mobile and wireless technologies. She also focused on bringing in new business to the firm. One of those accounts was 1-800-TOW-TRUCK, and Weiss worked to publicize its partnership with Palm mobile technologies for an application on an early version of the Palm Pilot.

Shira Weiss began consulting in 2001 when she formed Weiss Media Group and has delivered many PR “hits” for clients and for the PR firms that she has partnered with (i.e. Nash Communications, Dukas Public Relations and Seymour Public Relations among others).  Her clients have been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Dow Jones, on BBC Television, as well as on ABC and CBS Television, and on CBS Radio. She also pitched the entire concept and provided panelists and the expert for a Dr. Phil Show that aired on 1/16/08.

Above is just a small sampling of the numerous media outlets that Shira Weiss has worked with - and currently works with - on a daily basis. At the core of her media relations activities is the primary goal of securing positive press coverage with top-tier media for clients.

In her “spare time,” she is a freelance writer, a blogger and a regular contributor to The Huffington Post, The Jewish Standard and The Jewish Link.
